Everyone deserves to have the healthy food they need. But every day, one in eight Americans goes hungry. Worse, many won’t admit it because of stigma and shame. This is called hidden hunger—and we want to erase it once and for all.
That’s why, every day, The Food Dignity® Movement fights to shine a light on food insecurity. Because in the most prosperous nation on Earth, when even one of us goes without, we all suffer.

OUR MISSION
End Food Insecurity
According to the World Health Organization, hidden hunger occurs when people don’t have access to a wide variety of nutrients for a healthy life. The Food Dignity® Movement builds on this definition to acknowledge the social reasons behind this public health crisis.
By challenging the stigma around food assistance — and addressing the societal roots of hunger in America — the Food Dignity® Movement works to uncover and address places of hidden hunger and food insecurity.
In doing so, we aim to strengthen communities united by our shared humanity.

How to Normalize Conversations About Nutritional Security in your Clinic and Community
You know people are hungry. Now you can find out why—and take action.
What is Food Dignity®?
Food Dignity supports and honors everyone’s right to healthy food at all times. It fosters a sense of pride in oneself while asking for help during a difficult time—and eradicates the shame associated with poor food access.
Food dignity breaks through the barriers associated with healthy food access. It shapes food empathy in our culture so that people who need help are supported, honored, validated, and respected during a difficult time.
Food Dignity begins with us.
Why is Food Dignity® important?
59% of households with food insecurity participated in at least one of the three major federal food assistance programs (SNAP, School Feeding Programs, WIC).
Yet most of those people don’t reach out for help. Many people do not know about the programs or if they qualify for the programs—some don’t even know how to apply.
But together, we can improve access to healthy food—and boost the health of our community.
Our Work
Incubating Ideas
In collaboration with community leaders, business execs, and nonprofit directors, we help uncover creative solutions for community food systems, nonprofits, and corporations fighting against food insecurity.
Advocating for the Hungry
We speak for people living with food insecurity to government, community leaders, associations, and executives—shining a light on the need for food security and a healthy, sustainable society.
Developing Leaders
We harness the passion of today’s generation of young hunger advocates and help them take the hunger fight to their communities, focusing on building alliances and changing attitudes.
Growing a Movement
We know that change starts with a mindset shift, but must be followed up with real action, so we nurture strong leadership, raise funding, and cultivate powerful but compassionate follow-through.

Bill Bolan, Shoval Center for Community Engagement and Learning, King’s College
King’s College has been thrilled to collaborate with Clancy Harrison and the Food Dignity® Movement. In just a short time, we’ve watched multiple nonprofits expand their capacity and provide nutritious food to individuals and families who otherwise wouldn’t have access. Clancy’s thorough knowledge of the complex issues surrounding food assistance and stigma, as well as her incredible skills as a community organizer, have made all our efforts possible. King’s is grateful to work with such an accomplished advocate!
Erin Coffield, National Dairy Council
If anyone can help us gain momentum to overcome food insecurity in America, it is Clancy Cash Harrison! I have had the pleasure of working with Clancy over the past year to raise awareness about the role of dairy foods in addressing food insecurity. I am astonished by how Clancy weaves in her personal story of transitioning from a food elitist to a food justice advocate – all in the name of nutrition, health, and ethics. She challenges conventional thinking and pushes us to help make a difference by removing stigma and adding a healthy dose of humanity so everyone in America can get the nourishment they deserve.
